Arboretum Night Walk: New Year’s Eve

UW Arboretum Visitor Center, 1207 Seminole Hwy, Madison, WI 53711 (enter Arboretum at 1207 Seminole Hwy; proceed east 1 mile to Visitor Center).
Free naturalist-led hike. The Visitor Center will be open from 6–8:30 p.m. for the annual celebration. The walk begins at 6:30. Afterward, join us for a cup of hot chocolate and a peaceful welcome to the New Year.

Arboretum Walk: Follow the Glacier

Arboretum Ecological Restoration Work Party: Core Area and Curtis Prairie

Volunteer for restoration activities at the UW Arboretum and learn about prairies and savannas. Tools and training are provided; groups are welcome with advance notice. Meet at Visitor Center front steps. Work party will be cancelled if there is precipitation, if temperature is below 10 degrees, or if snow depth exceeds 6”.

Arboretum Family Walk: Our Feathered Friends

Arboretum Night Walk: The Long Night Moon

Free naturalist-led hike. Also called the Full Cold Moon, this moon rises at 5 p.m. and stays above the horizon for nearly 15 hours. On a cloudless night it easily lights the way for a walk. Dress for the weather.

Arboretum Walk: Effigy Mounds

Wingra Springs Parking Lot, Arboretum Drive, Madison, WI
Meet at the WINGRA SPRINGS PARKING LOT for this free naturalist-led hike. The Arboretum contains rare, intact mound groups – remnants of the hundreds built in our area more than 1,000 years ago. On this tour, featuring the mounds in Wingra and Gallistel Woods, you’ll learn about these ancient earthworks and their builders.
