8th Annual Healing Art Show
Oct 10, 2014 5 -9pm
Crescendo Cafe, 1859 Monroe St, Madison, WI 53711
The Healing Art Show displays the works of creative individuals who have experienced mental illness. This year we are especially excited because the show will be a part of Gallery Night, presented by the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. We hope to help break the stigma surrounding mental illness by showcasing the artistic works of those with mental illnesses, highlighting creative talents and personal strengths that far overshadow mental illness. We also want to support the artists by providing a venue for showing and selling their works.

Summer Exhibition Showcase
Jul 21, 0014 July 21, 2014 through August 31, 2014
A wide variety of photographs, oils, pastels, and mixed media . . . all created by VSA Wisconsin program participants in the Open Doors Studio and Photo Town! classes are on view this summer.
Open Doors Studio is a fine arts class that helps Madison area artists with disabilities develop advanced artistic skills through self-directed projects in painting, drawing, paper arts and mixed media. The studio class meets for 90 minutes weekly at the VSA Art Center in fall, winter, and spring. Participants gain hands-on experience in selecting materials, exploring artistic techniques, developing content, and preparing pieces for exhibition and sale. Selected works are on view at the Henry Street Café and Atrium Gallery, Capital Lakes Retirement Community, 333 W. Main, through August 31. A public reception will be held July 10 from 4 – 5:30 pm at the Henry Street Café.
VSA Wisconsin’s digital photography class Photo Town! teaches individuals with disabilities how to use a digital camera. The five session course provides individualized instruction in photographic composition, lighting, print selection, as well as matting and framing. In order to offer inspiring settings for photographs, several class sessions were held at accessible Madison-area venues including the Overture Center for the Arts, Brittingham Boats and James Madison Park. Selected prints are currently on view at the Chocolaterian Café, 2004 Atwood Avenue through August 31. A public reception will be held on July 18 from 5-8 pm.
