Work Outing to Black Earth Prairie

Black Earth/Rettenmund Prairie (a State Natural Area) are – From Madison take HWY 14 west to Black Earth, Turn L (south) at light (HWY 78), go about 6 blocks and then R onto HWY KP. Go about 1 mile and then L on HWY F. After about 100 yds turn R on Fesenfeld Rd. Back Earth Prairie is on the L just before the first house on the L (1/4 mi?). There is small “parking lot.” Park along the Right side of the Rd.
Join a long time Sierran, and Prairie Enthusiast member, Willis Brown on a fun work outing. Bring leather gloves and other gear for being outdoors in the open, including sunscreen, maybe a hat, and liquids to drink. We also recommend leather boots and bug spray. After the work party, from 9 am to Noon, feel free to stay for an optional prairie tour. And for those who want some variety we could also tour Pleasant Valley Conservancy another State Natural Area is nearby (about 5 miles to the south) and is a spectacular example of prairie/oak savanna/wetland restoration.
