Talking Spirits Cemetery Tour XVI

Join us for the 16th annual Talking Spirits Cemetery Tour, held at the beautiful Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison. During the 90-minute walking tour, local actors dressed in period attire portray four Civil War-era characters buried at Forest Hill. The tour also features discussions about the cemetery’s rich history and unique gravestone art. Tours leave every 20 minutes beginning at noon.

Adults $5 / Children $2

*Note: In the event of inclement weather, the tour will be rescheduled for Sunday, Oct. 19.

Orton Park Neighborhood Historic Architecture Walking Tour

Meet at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1021 Spaight St., Madison
Slip on your most comfortable shoes for a walking tour of one of Madison’s oldest neighborhoods, Orton Park on Madison’s near east side. The two-hour tour includes more than two dozen exteriors, three interiors and one garden. You’ll see homes designed by local architects (including Claude and Starck) in distinctive styles as diverse as Italianate, Queen Anne, Greek and Tudor revival, Craftsman and Prairie. Tour groups will leave from Immanuel Lutheran Church every half hour between 1 and 4:30 p.m. The tour, sponsored by Willy Street Co-op and Apex Property Management , Inc., is in celebration of the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation’s 40th anniversary. German Immigration Tour at Pope Farm Conservancy

Tour our ‘green’ monastery building, dedicated in November 2009, and certified by the US Green Building Council in 2010 at the platinum level, with 63 out of a possible 69 points on the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) New Construction-v2.2 scale. Learn about geothermal heating and cooling, renewable resources, daylighting, photo voltaic cells, rain gardens, pervious concrete, green roofs, solar tubes and much more! A $5 donation per person is requested for tours with our trained tour guides, and tours last about 90 minutes with Q&A.

Marquette Neighborhood Bungalows: Historic Architecture Walking Tour

Meet in the small parking lot behind Marquette Elementary School (approx. 1480 Spaight St.), Madison
The 47 Craftsman-style bungalows in this small historic district comprise the densest concentration of Craftsman-style homes in the city. They weren’t designed by trained architects, but by craftsmen working for the Karrels Building Co. between 1924 and 1929. Learn about jerkinhead dormers, battered piers and why the 48th house is not a bungalow. $10 adults/$5 students & seniors (60+). Purchase ticket from tour guide.
