JAILED FOR TRASH

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) -- John Allen is getting some unexpected help with his trash. The 86-year-old Pennsylvania man was jailed for a week for not cleaning or mowing his yard.

But his jail guards are lending a hand. About a dozen corrections officers from the Lawrence County prison staff spent several days at the elderly man's home this week.

They got rid lots of old furniture and other junk. Some guards plan to come back once the snow melts to mow the grass. Allen, who's a World War II vet, says he has nothing but good things to say about the jail guards.
