GREENSBORO, Vt. (AP) -- Fourteen-year-old Thula Martin is running away to join the circus. At least that's what she might tell her teacher in the fall.
But the ninth grader from Hawaii is one of 30 teenagers from around the world spending this summer performing in Circus Smirkus. The troupe tours the Northeast each summer.
Circus Smirkus features school-aged acrobats, jugglers and clowns. While it's not the greatest show on earth, it may be the youngest. In this circus, everyone in the ring is between 14 and 19.
