DELAWARE, Mich. (AP) -- When you think of pets, you probably don't think of skunks. But Tom and Lani Poynter say they make ideal pets. They have two, a male and female, named Oreo and Snickers.
Lani Poynter says her skunks are very catlike and cute. She adds they sleep in the bed with her and her husband. But what about the skunk stink? The Michigan couple tells The Daily Mining Gazette newspaper pet skunks' scent glands are surgically removed. Poynter says her skunks are even paper trained.

That's pretty cool. But can anyone tell me how to get rid of skunks (with thier glands intacted) that are around our home? Without killing them. I have a Husky/Collie mix dog that either cannot smell or is brain impaired because he has been sprayed 8 times in 2 yrs and killed 3 skunks. And I am here to tell you that tomato juice does not work!! Short of shooting them all or getting rid of the dog I don't know what to do? I love my dog, and don't want him to spend most of his time outside tied up, but each time he gets sprayed it takes longer to get the smell out. I even tried "skunk out" from the vet. Unless I buy HUGE quanties of this stuff, the smell takes forever and alot baths to get out.

My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Oreo a few years back - we did not know about the pet and were outside when the little guy came out around the corner of a cabinet where he strolled casually in front of my father in law who was quite shocked to see a skunk walking around inside!
