Madison could receive $50 mil for F-35 noise mitigation
Funds would go to communities near Truax Field
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Madison neighborhoods nearby could receive some federal funding, due to the approval of the F-35 fighter jets coming to Truax Field.
If approved by Congress, $50 million from the Defense Spending bill would go toward fixing problems in communities impacted by military aviation noise. That includes more than 1,000 homes impacted by F-35s at the national guard base.
The money would also provide communities with environmental impact studies to measure the level of jet noise on the surrounding area.
"Having one of these homes in one of these areas could negatively impact the value of your home because of the usability, instead, these funds can be used if it's determined that you need new windows or better insulation or something else, we can now do that and people can have a better quality of life in their homes," U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan, (D) Wisconsin, District 2 said.
The bill will head to the House and then Senate for approval; from there, it will head to the president’s desk for a signature.
