Sun Prairie police arrest 23-year-old man for OWI with help of K9

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - After passing out in his car Tuesday, a 23-year-old man attempted to drive away from responding officers and take off on foot before he was arrested, according to the Sun Prairie Police Department.

Around 3:37 a.m. Sun Prairie police responded to the BP Gas Station at 9 Tower Dr. for a report of a man passed out in his car. Gairitt G. Schad attempted to drive away from the officers when they tried to get him out of his car.

Police say Schad drove a short distance before abandoning his car on Tower Dr. and taking of on foot.

With the help of the Dane County Sheriff’s Officer K-9, Schad was taken into custody in a nearby neighborhood. Police say Schad had an active parole warrant through the department of corrections.

Schad was also charged with three counts of second degree recklessly endangering safety, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing/eluding an officer and a first offense OWI.
