12-year-old accused of stealing car, causing a lot of damage
After her arrest, she reportedly told officers she didn’t know how to drive
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A 12-year-old girl was in for a wild ride Tuesday morning after allegedly stealing a car and taking a destructive trip down a main road on Madison’s west side.
According to the Madison Police Dept., the girl found the vehicle unlocked with the keys still in it shortly before noon on McKenna Blvd. and headed toward Gammon Lane.
The MPD report stated she started by heading down the wrong lane of traffic before jumping a curve and hitting a mailbox. Then, she swerved back across traffic and slammed into a dresser sitting on the side of the street, shattering it into pieces.
The vehicle kept on going, investigators said, crossing the sidewalk before hitting a residential building. After her arrest, she reportedly told officers she didn’t know how to drive.
The girl, whose name was not released was booked on counts of second degree reckless endangerment, operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, and resisting arrest.
