JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) - Janesville Police arrested a 29-year-old Iowa man Wednesday after he brandished a firearm at another motorist, crashed into several other vehicles and caused a police pursuit that concluded at a BP gas station, according to a press release.
The Wisconsin State Patrol alerted the Janesville Police Department around 2:20 p.m. of a man in a Ford Taurus with no plates who had brandished a firearm at another motorist in Janesville, according to Janesville Police.
A State Trooper tried to stop Quivadas Q.L. Gaines, but he eluded the trooper, driving the wrong way on the interstate. The Trooper lost sight of Gaines, but reports indicate the car was last seen heading south on Milton Avenue police say.
The suspected vehicle was spotted by Janesville officers near Milton/Centerway. It was traveling at a high rate of speed and a pursuit at Parker/Centerway was initiated by police. According to police, the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed, into oncoming traffic and through red lights.
According to police they could not keep up with the vehicle while stopping for red lights and heavy traffic, but Gaines was last seen heading southbound near CenterAvenue and W. Racine St.
Police say the vehicle was found disabled near Center Avenue and Rockport after striking a traffic signal and BP gas station sign at the intersection.
Gaines ran around the back of the gas station as citizens and employees chased after him. When officers arrived, he surrendered.
When the pursuit concluded police learned Gaines had crashed into an occupied vehicle at Humes/I90 during his initial pursuit with the State Patrol and crashed into two other occupied vehicles sin the gas station parking lot.
Upon searching his vehicle police found two fake guns. They also learned Gaines was being sought for an armed robbery in Madison that occurred earlier in the day.
Gaines was arrested for felony fleeing an officer, recklessly endangering safety, three counts of hit and run and disorderly conduct while armed.
