Madison driver arrested after crashing into bicyclist

The rider was taken to the hospital with serious injuries

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A Madison driver was arrested early Wednesday afternoon for allegedly being under the influence when she crashed into a bicyclist and nearly hit three more.

According to the Madison Police Dept., Shannon Holmes was driving in the 1200 block of E. Wilson St. around 12:30 p.m. when her vehicle swerved at group of four bicyclists. Three of them managed to dodge the 37-year-old Holmes’ car.

The fourth rider, a 49-year-old Milwaukee woman, was knocked onto the hood of the car and hit the windshield, MPD’s incident report indicated. She was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Holmes was booked into the Dane Co. jail on a count of causing an injury while driving impaired and has since been released.

A spokesperson for the Madison Police Dept. noted that Holmes was “very apologetic” about the incident.
