Name released of Sun Prairie woman killed in Monday crash
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WMTV) - The Dane Co. Medical Examiner released the name of the 48-year-old Sun Prairie woman who died after being struck by a vehicle while walking with her wife earlier this week.
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as Julie L. Nelson. Earlier in the day, the Sun Prairie Police Dept. reported Nelson was married to a Madison Police Dept. officer.
According to Sun Prairie police, they were walking along the bike path along E. Main St., near the Whitetail Drive intersection, around 3:30 p.m. when they were struck by one of the two vehicles involved in the wreck.
Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner’s office confirmed her death was the result of injuries sustained in the crash.
A GoFundMe page has raised over $10,000 for the family.
The 32-year-old driver of one of the vehicles has also been taken into custody, the police dept. also noted. James Blackstone was booked on a count of the misdemeanor bail jumping.
The name of the other driver has not been released.
The crash remains under investigation. The police department has not released many details about what led to the crash at this time and say more information will be made available when it is appropriate.
The Dane Co. Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted in the initial investigation at the scene, the police department added.
