MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -A new agriculture ambassador for Wisconsin will not be chosen until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) announced Monday the 74th annual Alice in Dairyland finals were canceled. They were to be held in Walworth County in May.

“While 2020 may be behind us, the pandemic is not. Cancelling the 74th Alice in Dairyland finals is an unfortunate but necessary step to help protect the health and safety of our staff and the public we serve,” says DATCP Secretary-designee Randy Romanski.

Julia Nunes of Chippewa Falls will continue in her current role as Alice in Dairyland until July 2022.

Alice in Dairyland is a one-year, full-time public relations position with DATCP. Each year, she travels across the state to promote agriculture to various audiences and provide educational programming, in conjunction with the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin.
