MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Several locations in Wisconsin now offer Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to the newest eligible age group, 12-15-year-olds.

NBC15 spoke with children and young teens getting the vaccine on the first day of eligibility.

Fifteen-year-old Angela Miller was happy to roll up her sleeve for the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I feel like I’m part of the team,” Miller said.

Miller said one reason she became a team player was to reconnect with people she cares about.

“It makes me feel safer to have it, being out in public with other people,” Miller said. “Some of my friends, I can finally hug them again and I’m super excited.”

“I was nervous, but it’s a quick pinch and then gone,” 12-year-old Pierce Vanderloo said.

Despite those nerves, Vanderloo didn’t want to miss out on his shot.

“You should get it if you can and we can return to a somewhat normal life,” Vanderloo said, adding that he’s looking forward to going on vacation this summer and going to swim practice.

NBC15 also asked Julia Miller, Angela’s mom, and Darsee Vanderloo, Pierce’s mom about why they made the decision to sign their kids up for the vaccine, less than 24 hours after CDC approval.

“I feel good about it, I’ve talked to a lot of scientist friends who say it’s fine and it’s safe,” Julia Miller said.

“I understand that the odds of them of having a significant problem with COVID were they to get it are pretty low, but the odds with the vaccine are zero, and those are odds we’re much more comfortable with,” Darsee Vanderloo said.

Miller said she wants to do what’s best for everyone.

“It feels like it’s the right thing to do if it’s available to me, I want to get it to keep myself and other people safe,” Angela Miller said.
