MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Student athletes who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will not be required to quarantine for a close contact, if they are symptom free, Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control announced Wednesday.

The WIAA approved changes to its COVID-19 guidelines for its spring tournament series, adding this new rule.

The association also approved a reduction in the number of days needed to quarantine after a close contact for a confirmed COVID-19 case from 14 days to six.

Spectators can remove their masks at outdoor spring state tournaments if they can social distance, WIAA stated, but encouraged masks for everyone if social distancing is difficult. Masks are still required for fans watching indoor competitions.

The WIAA also approved the choice of the La Crosse Center for the State Girls Individual Wrestling Tournament on Jan 29, 2022, which will be hosted by Holmen High School. The tournament will be held at this spot for two years.
