MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Madison Police Department officers are investigating a shooting Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. on the 1100 block of Williamson Street Wednesday, according to the department. Multiple police vehicles were situated at a gas station near the intersection of Few Street and Williamson Street.

Officers found one person with a gunshot wound and a citizen attending to the person. Police administered a tourniquet to the victim and took them to a local hospital.

MPD continued, saying around 9:30 p.m. that the victim was in stable condition.

A neighbor nearby, Jonee Avendano, told NBC15 that they heard popping noises around 6 p.m., then saw someone on a stretcher.

“He was responsive it seemed like so all we can do is hope for his speedy recovery. Hopefully he feels comfortable enough to give information to the police and they can catch him,” Avendano said.

MPD believes this is an isolated incident.

Restaurants along Williamson Street continued to stay open.

There are no suspects in custody and MPD says its Violent Crime Unit is continuing to investigate.
