Police: Subject of manhunt in Green Bay killing being investigated for homicide in Alabama
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The subject of a multi-state manhunt for a Green Bay homicide suspect is being investigated for another homicide in Alabama, according to Michigan State Police.
Caleb Anderson is being held in the Shelby County Jail in Alabama following his arrest Wednesday. Michigan State Police say he is being investigated there as a suspect in a homicide and arson. No other details were released.
Green Bay Police also confirmed to Action 2 News that they have received information that Anderson is a suspect in a homicide in Alabama.
Police were searching for Anderson in connection with the death of a person at an apartment complex on Packerland Drive in Green Bay.
Michigan State Police say Anderson is suspected of assaulting and attempting to kidnap an 18-year-old woman who was jogging in Iron County. She was able to fight off her attacker.
U.S. Marshals Service confirmed Anderson was arrested by marshals in Helena, Alabama, 20 miles south of Birmingham. Anderson had felony warrants for his arrest from both Wisconsin and Michigan.
“There was also a daycare that was close by that we had officers in between the scene and that daycare. And we were able to take him into custody with no additional threats to the area. We welcome anyone into Helena unless you’re a criminal,” Helena Police Chief Brad Flynn said.
According to the Helena Police Department, the Green Bay victim’s blue Ford Fiesta was spotted driving into Helena at the same time the police department was having service training.
Twenty officers -- on-duty and off-duty -- responded and assisted the marshals.
Police initially thought Anderson, who’s from Iron County, Michigan, might go to the Upper Peninsula. The Michigan State Patrol was alerted to be on the lookout for the victim’s stolen Ford Fiesta.
Court records show assault charges were filed against Anderson in Marquette County in 2019. The prosecuting attorney said Anderson would run up and grab the buttocks of unsuspecting women on and near the Northern Michigan University campus then run away. He was charged with multiple counts of 4th-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Action 2 News will update this story as we learn more information.
