MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – UPDATE: The victim in a shooting on Madison’s West side has died according to Madison Police.

MPD is now investigating this as a homicide, and also share that two suspects have been taken into custody.

The individual who died was shot on the city’s west side, near the Tree Lane Apartments, in the 7900 block of Tree Lane late Thursday morning, shortly before 11 a.m.

When police arrived on scene, officers located the shooting victim. At first, the statement from police did not give the condition of the individual, as the scene was very active.

“As you can see, it’s broad daylight. It is spring break. There is a playground probably 100 feet from me and these things certainly have no place in Madison. This is why we’ve been working very hard to take illegal guns off the street,” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said. “If you remember last year we recovered almost 340 illegal guns from off our streets and this is why. So that we do not have these types of incidents.”

MPD’s statement indicated more information will be released at a later time.

This story is still developing. NBC15 News has a crew on the scene and will provide more information as it is released.
