Amelia Jones joined the NBC15 News Team in June 2018 as a multi-media journalist/reporter.
Originally from Kansas City, Amelia was thrilled to make the eight-hour drive to Wisconsin since it meant she gets to call Madison her new home. She is eager to connect with the community and looks forward to exploring all this thriving city has to offer.
This is not Amelia’s first time living in Wisconsin. She graduated from Marquette University in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.
Amelia received the Wisconsin Broadcaster Association’s award for “Best News Writing” for her story covering the mumps outbreak on Marquette’s campus. She was also nominated for a collegiate Emmy in 2017 for her sports story about the junior Milwaukee Admirals hockey team. Both recognitions were received while working at Marquette University Television Station (MUTV) as an anchor, reporter and assistant executive news producer.
During her senior year of college, Amelia worked as an investigative reporter while interning with Wisconsin Public Television on the ‘Purple River Project,’ which covered the political affiliation change from Democrat to Republican in rural Wisconsin towns during the 2016 presidential election. This project was also in partnership with the O’Brien Fellowship in Public Service Journalism at Marquette, which Amelia worked closely with as a program assistant.
Amelia also interned at five other news stations: WITI, CBS58 and The Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service; KARE11 News in Minneapolis, and KTTC in Rochester, Minnesota.
During college, she was also a member of the Marquette University Cheerleading Squad, a member of Sigma Kappa and Marquette University’s Lamda Pi Eta Communications Honor Society.
In her free time, she loves outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, and golfing. Her favorite season is the fall, because of two words: college football. Her family is diehard Oklahoma Sooners fans, but Amelia is looking forward to having two teams to root for now and can’t wait to attend her first Badgers game!
