Project Money: Maintaining healthy lifestyle

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- We’ve been following our four Project Money teams as they work to increase their saving and decrease debt.

We’re checking in with Sara Heiss who over the past several months has increased her savings by more than $7000 and reduced her debt by more than $1000.

Sara talked about what’s been working for her financial makeover.

Sara found that a healthy financial status goes hand in hand with a healthy lifestyle.

Sara said having a grocery budget helps her family eat out less and deliberate meal preparation which reduces unhealthy and expensive food purchases. Using leftovers for another meal or freezing food helps decrease expenses. She said overall, this has helped her family cut down on stress and use the money we’ve saved for savings and debt reduction. She goes on to say you don’t need to have a gym membership to stay active either, just get creative.
