MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)---Both professional and amateur athletes braved the heat on Father's Day to compete in the Wisconsin Milkman Triathlon.

This was the first year of the event. Around 1200 athletes from 23 states raced along the shore of Lake Monona.

Competitors received cheers from both friends and fans as they battled to reach the finish line.

The Milkman Triathlon is a half iron distance triathlon. That's 1.2 mile swim followed by a 56 mile bike ride ending with a 13.1 mile run.

The full distance Ironman Wisconsin Triathlon will take place in Madison later this summer.
