3 killed in head-on crash on Highway 19 in Westport

Three people are dead after a crash on Highway 19 between River Road and County I/WIS 113 in the Town of Westport Friday morning.

A car was seen recklessly passing vehicles on the gravel shoulder, traveling eastbound on STH 19 near Waunakee. The driver of the vehicle lost control, crossed the center line, and struck a minivan traveling westbound head-on, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the car was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the minivan was also pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the minivan was transported to a local hospital by med-flight. The driver was later pronounced deceased, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

The coroner's office is on scene, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

STH 19 is currently closed between River Rd and CTH I. The road is expected to be closed through 3:00 p.m. Friday.

The Waunakee Fire Department and EMS, the Dane County Sheriff's Office, Sun Prairie EMS and DeForest Police departments are also responding.

The crash is still under investigation. Names of the deceased will be released by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office, pending identification and notification of family.
