MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- The American Family Insurance Championship announced the first round of competitors committed to play in the professional golf tournament in June.
According to a press release, Steve Stricker, Kirk Triplett, Jerry Kelly and Scott McCarron are among the early entrants to the 2019 American Family Insurance Champoinship, to be played June 21-23 at University Ridge Golf Course.
Kirk Triplett won the inaugural event in 2016. Triplett has three wins on the PGA TOUR, and won the 2019 Hoag Classic.
Steve Stricker is a Madison resident and native of Edgerton. Stricker launched the American Family Insurance Championship in June 2016. Stricker has 12 wins on the PGA TOUR, and finished 20th at the 2018 U.S. Open. He is also preparing to be the captain of the 2020 U.S. Ryder Cup team.
Jerry Kelly has three wins on the PGA TOUR Champions, and 18 other top-10 finishes in his third year on the tour. He earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2017. He also has two wins on the PGA TOUR.
The reigning champion, Scott McCarron, will return after winning last year by one stroke over Kelly and two strokes over Stricker. He has eight wins on the PGA TOUR Champions and three wins on the PGA TOUR.
The full 78-player field for the championship will be set on June 15, according to the press release.
