MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- 35 American Family Insurance interns competed against each other in the company's first-ever "Share Tank."
Nine teams of interns partnered with a non-profit organization. The teams volunteered with the nonprofits and then generated a plan improve one of their major needs.
"This is not just something for the interns, it is also something for the community," said intern Cyan Zyong.
"I know several members very well now and I see them when I come volunteer and I'll talk to them for a long time so it's been great developing those relationships," said intern Luke Falk.
The teams then presented their experiences and plans to a panel of judges.
"I think it's very important for us young people, millennials, these days to learn about the value of giving back to the community," Zyong said.
The winning organization was the Aldo Leopold Nature Center. They received a $2,500 prize and the interns who presented the winning idea were each awarded $500 scholarships.
"It's a really value experience and something I definitely hope they continue to do," Falk said.
