MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- One person is displaced after a fire at a downtown apartment complex.
The Madison Fire Department responded to a call that came in at about 2:30 Monday morning, for a fire in the 200 block of North Frances Street. When fire officials arrived, they could see fire and smoke coming from a second story window.
78 people were inside at the time of the fire.
Once inside, firefighters found flames engulfing a second-story bedroom.
Investigators determined the fire was caused by a candle. It was ruled an accident.
One resident suffered minor injuries, but did not seek medical help. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced resident. UW-Madison reached out to any students living in the building, to assess their needs.
Fire officials estimate the building accrued $50,000 worth of damage.
