Arlington man sentenced for dealing in firearms without license

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- A 66-year-old Arlington man was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for selling guns without a license.

Eugene Ripp pleaded guilty to the charge in February. Ripp will spend two years in supervised release after his prison sentence.

In July 2015, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) told Ripp he could be prosecuted for selling guns without a Federal Firearms License. The ATF used undercover agents to confirm Ripp was selling guns without a license.

Because Ripp did not have a license, he did not go through a background check process on customers.

Ripp kept selling firearms at gun shows, after the ATF gave him a Cease and Desist Letter and after he had been told some guns he sold had been used in crimes.
