Authorities arrest wanted Colorado man in Town of Beloit

TOWN OF BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV)--- A Preschool was placed on lockdown as authorities arrested a wanted Colorado in Beloit on Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Northrop of the Town of Beloit Police Department said officers responded to the 1900 block of Dewey Ave. just before 1:30 p.m. for a report of a verbal argument between neighbors. During the investigation, officers learned that 52-year-old Walter M. Kolak was wanted on felony arrest warrants through the state of Colorado.

Northrop said Kolak retreated into a RV trailer which was parked in the backyard of the home. Kolak refused officer’s commands, but he refused to cooperate. Town of Beloit Police Department requested helped from deputies with the Rock County Sheriff’s Office. Just before 3 p.m., further assistance was requested from the Rock County Sheriff’s S.W.A.T. and Negotiation teams.

Northrop said just after 4 p.m., Kolak exited the RV trailer and was taken into custody without incident.

Northrop said because the area was close to the Head Start Preschool. It was placed on lockdown.

The warrants for Kolak were felony failure to appear for a court appearance, felony menacing real/simulated weapons, and felony weapons possession, and assault knowingly recklessly causing injury/tele-obstruction. All of the warrants were full extradition.

Kolak was also arrested on local charges for a fugitive complaint, failure to comply with law enforcement, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of THC.
