Authorities search for man who stole 18 guns
JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV)---Surveillance video at Armageddon Supplies in Janesville caught the crook in action as he made away with guns, ammunition, and silencers.
18 guns were stolen including 16 handguns and two rifles, one a fully automatic.
Deputies responded to an alarm that went off around 8:30 last night at Armageddon Supplies on Highway 14 just outside the city of Janesville.
When they got to the shop the door was smashed in and glass everywhere, but no one was inside.
Police are using surveillance video to find the man responsible. They say they're worried this amount of gun fire is in one man's hands.
"The weapons that he took put him in a little bit higher capabilities or fire power than our deputies on patrol have. So if he wants to use those weapons against law enforcement or others he's got a formidable amount and formidable weapons," said Todd Christiansen, Detective Captain with Rock County Sheriff's Office.
During this call, deputies also got a call for a car on fire just a few miles from the burglary.
The car was fully engulfed and deputies believe it was set intentionally.
At this point there is no reason to connect the two crimes.
However, detectives are looking into it because of the close proximity and time it occurred.
This isn't new for Armageddon Supplies. The store has had other guns stolen within the past year.
Deputies say last time, they were able to find the person responsible using surveillance footage and they're hoping to do the same this time around.
If you recognize the person in the surveillance photos you can contact the Rock County Sheriff's Office crime tip line at 608-757-7911.
