MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A large confrontation involving many people led to a shooting that left one man dead and two other people injured on Monday night.

Police were called to the 700 block of Elm Street for a disturbance around 9:30 p.m.

Police confirmed none of the victims were residents of the 700 block of Elm Street.
Beloit Chief of police David Zibloski said no one is in custody, but he does not believe there is a safety issue.
"In terms of neighborhood safety, this was a known suspect, victim confrontation. We don't have the details into what caused it or exactly who these individuals are, but we're working on it. As I said it's still very early, but I think we're making significant progress already."
Police said they have noticed a lot of comments on social media about potential suspects. They are asking the community to refrain from speculating about who is involved for the safety of the community and to protect the integrity of the investigation.
