MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) --- MGE Green Madison offers energy house parties. A host invites about 5 other couples to his or her home to educate friends and family about energy efficient concepts.
In return, the host gets a free energy audit.
"The air was just leaking through the walls. So the cold air in the winter time would flow down through the walls," said Max Magee.
Max and Andrea Magee hosted a energy house party to fix that problem.
"If our house is just leaking energy out through the walls, the attic, the basement then I feel like we've done an incomplete job of being conservation minded," said Magee.
"We come out and show them why they have cold rooms, why they have ice, why they have rodents in their house," said Bob Runchey.
Bob Runchey is the owner of American Home Consultants. He inspected Andrea and Max's home.
"The energy saving items in your house, the sill boxes are number two. I always recommend spray foam," said Runchey.
Runchey found that the coldest room in the house belonged to the youngest member of the Magee family, two-year-old Kat Magee.
"This room was about 8 to 10 degrees colder than the rest of the house," said Runchey.
Runchey says many homeowners don't realize how much energy they're losing.
"That's the beauty of an energy assessment," said Runchey.
He says the projected energy savings for the Magee household is 14%, with a pay back of around 6 to 8 years.
