Black Earth Children's Museum prepares for grand opening
BLACK EARTH, Wis. (WMTV) --- One of the only small town children's museums in the nation will soon be opening here in Dane County.
The museum will open in just two weeks in downtown Black Earth.
Aaron and Karen Carlock came up with the idea after visiting another children's museum while on vacation with their family in Michigan.
The two say this dream became reality thanks to the help from more than 100 volunteers in the community. They say the museum is addressing a need for children that isn't available in the rural part of the county.
"Everyone in this area wanted something for families, wanted something for kids to be able to experience and have that enrichment that isn't present here. There are so many opportunities in Madison but not a lot in this western part of Dane County," said Karen Carlock, founder of Black Earth Children's Museum.
The museum will open June 12th, but some families have already purchased their annual memberships.
The museum is geared toward ages 10 and below. However, there are plans to continue expanding and eventually provide services to middle school and high school kids in the area.
