UPDATE: Residents safe after house destroyed west of Beloit

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - UPDATE: A family's home in Rock County is completely destroyed after what authorities believe to be an electrical issue sparked a fire Wednesday afternoon.

Rock County Communications tells NBC15 that a contractor working at the home spotted the flames and called 911. The top floor of the two-story home is completely destroyed, authorities say, while the bottom floor sustained minor damage.

The home is believed to be at a total loss. The residents of the home were not there when the fire began, and there are no injuries reported.


Multiple agencies battled a house fire west of Beloit in Rock County Wednesday afternoon. The fire also closed Highway 81 at County K for some hours.

Rock County Communications tells NBC15 that the residents are safe, but the extent of damage so far is unknown.

About 10 agencies including Beloit ad Janesville fire departments responded to the fire around 2:33 p.m. in the 7500 block of Highway 81.
