MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A Madison elementary school teacher faces one count of reckless child abuse causing bodily harm after an incident in April 2019 at a City of Madison school.
According to Madison Metropolitan School District website, 60-year-old Christopher Rumbelow is a Physical Education Teacher at Franklin Elementary school.
He appeared in court on Thursday, May 16th and a signature bond was set at $500.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by NBC15, a student came home from school on April 1st, 2019 and told his mother a teacher at the school caused the injury on his forehead.
A DCHS officer interviewed the student who said “My gym teacher, he slammed the door on my face.”
Court documents reveal the child received a visible bump with a small gash above his left eyebrow from the handle of the door. The documents further explain the incident happened during gym class at the elementary school.
A teacher was interviewed by authorities who witnessed the exchange. According to the teacher, the student was kicking at a door in the hallway and was asked to stop by Rumbelow.
She says she then saw the teacher ‘forcefully’ push the door open which then hit the student.
He is set to be back in court on June 10th at 1:30pm.
