VERONA, Wis. (WMTV) -- March is National Nutrition Month, and Verona students got hands-on experience to learn about healthy eating habits on Friday.
"Jump with Jill" is a rock 'n' roll nutrition assembly that tours the nation to teach kids about the importance of healthy eating. The healthy eating-dance party was a prize for Sugar Creek Elementary School students.
The school was a runner up for a contest held by the Dairy Farmer of Wisconsin, in partnership with "Fuel to Play 60." One of the teachers says they try and incorporate healthy living in the classroom too.
"A lot of our teachers do a lot of brain breaks and a lot of our teachers do a lot of movement breaks," Lisette Venegas, bilingual resource teacher said.
Venegas says the partnership with Wisconsin Dairy Farmers is a good way for students to learn about things made in their home state.
"We also have some alternative seating style ways the kids can sit in the classroom — it's incorporated into their daily lives as well," Venegas said.
Wisconsin boasts more dairy farms than any other state, with more than 8-thousand dairy farms. Our state also has more cows than kids going to school.
