Driver arrested for 8th OWI following a hit-and-run crash

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Madison Police arrested 49-year-old Gilbert Delarosa of Baraboo for his 8th offense of operating while intoxicated.

At 5:41PM on Saturday evening, Madison police responded to a report of a non-injury, two-vehicle crash on the 4500 block of Verona Road.

When police arrived on scene, officers spoke to the 18-year-old female victim who told them the suspect was leaving on foot towards the BP gas station.

According to police, the suspect's car ran out of gas while he was trying to drive away from the scene of the accident. Police later saw the suspect getting back into his car and driving away.

Police performed a traffic stop of the suspect near Verona Road and Mckee Road. He was put through a standardized field sobriety testing and arrested for felony OWI- 8th Offense.

The suspect was also issued a citation for Hit & Run to an Attended Vehicle.
