VILLAGE OF BLACK EARTH, Wis. (WMTV) -- Governor Scott Walker has directed the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to use emergency contracting provisions to address damage to two bridges in Black Earth on Monday.
The two bridges carry U.S. Highway 14 traffic over the Black Earth Creek in Black Earth. U.S. Highway 14 traffic remains detoured using U.S. Highway 12 and Wisconsin Highway 78 in Mazomanie.
Initial structural analysis made by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation indicates the damage requires replacement of the bridges located on the east and west side of Black Earth. The provisions will allow for an expedited process to accomplish the replacement of the two bridges, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
The emergency work is anticipated to restore traffic in approximately three months. The normal process for accomplishing similar bridge replacement projects takes up to three years.
