MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- On Monday, Madison District 6 City Alder Marsha Rummel shared the news that Essen Haus could possibly have a new future.
The long-term Madison restaurant is apart of the Essen Haus properties that recently accepted an offer from a development company, according to Rummel's blog.
Rummel says the First Settlement neighborhood leaders are meeting with the parties involved to go over plans and proposals.
"This is a complicated site with layers of plans, ordinances, and zoning that affect redevelopment. There have been several previous efforts by developers to redevelop the site that failed," Rummel said in her blog post.
The Essen Haus has been apart of the First Settlement neighborhood for decades. Rummel says the large surface parking lot cries out for a better use but any new proposal must respect the historic neighborhood and adopted plans.
NBC15 has reached out to Rummel and Essen Haus property owners for further comment.
