MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Crews are investigating a "potentially suspicious" fire that started at the gift shop at the Madison Mallards stadium Thursday night.
Firefighters got to the scene on North Sherman Avenue around 9:50 p.m. Crews had to take a defensive attack on the fire, where they sprayed water from the outside, because it was too dangerous to go into the gift shop.
The fire was put out, but the building suffered significant damage, including a roof collapse.
Madison Fire Chief Steven Davis said the fire is suspicious, because it's off season and not a lot of people are at the stadium during that time. He also said the team had taken most of the merchandise out of the gift shop to renovate the space, so a lot of Mallard gear was unharmed.
