MIDDLETON, Wis. (WMTV) -- A man was arrested for his fourth OWI offense in Middleton early Sunday morning.

A Middleton Police officer conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle after learning that the sole registered owner did not possess a valid driver’s license on University Avenue at Highway 12 at 12:50 a.m., according to the Middleton Police Department.

The driver, 31-year-old Orville L. Townsend of Fitchburg admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages as the officer noted an odor of intoxicants coming from Townsend.

After completing field sobriety testing, Townsend was arrested for his fourth OWI charge — a felony. Townsend later provided a chemical test of his breath, which was found to be 0.19, more than twice the legal limit in Wisconsin.

Townsend was transported to the Dane County Jail where he was booked on the tentative charge of a fourth offense OWI. He was also ticketed for operating after the revocation of his driver’s license.
