Fundraiser for Sun Prairie family
Jerome Jansen is a head trainer at JJ's Boxing and Wrestling, but tomorrow he is the host of a fundraiser for Joe Powelka, who's family lost their home in the Sun Prairie explosion. The fundraiser starts at 8:30 a.m. and goes until 11 a.m. at JJ's Boxing and Wrestling.
"The next morning he inspired me, by calling me and being like hey i'm gonna be at workouts at 8:15 in the morning and you're like hey if I lost everything in a fire, I don't know if I would get up in the morning. He called me and was like "yeah, let's workout in the morning." So a couple of the girls showed up and showed him so much love, support and care I had to step away and I had to do something," Jansen said.
Jansen is not the only one who has done something for the Powelka family, the family has had constant support from the Sun Prairie community.
"Everybody...it blows me away, people, total strangers, friends, family, it's just... I don't have words for it, it's such a blessing," Joe Powelka said.
And this fundraiser isn't just an opportunity to give material items, but to show even more support for the Powelka family.
"If nothing else, just come and show your support outwardly, we've had a lot of people calling Joe and hitting us up on Facebook about what they can do, just show your effort, show your face. that's all we could ask for. even if you have nothing to bring, just bring that hopeful spirit," Jansen said.
Items the Powelka family are in need of are bedding, clothes, personal care items, but any type of donation is appreciated.
