MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)-- People in Madison and Janesville are noticing they are paying more for gas this week compared to the amount they were paying in January.
According to AAA Wisconsin, the price per gallon of unleaded gasoline was $2.29 in Madison. In January, it was $2.01 per gallon. In Janesville, the price per gallon is $2.23.
While the increases from January to February is unwelcome for drivers, last year, the cost was $2.40 per gallon.
Crude prices pushed to more than $57 per barrel this week due to growing concerns about tightening global supply, according to AAA Wisconsin. Those concerns are driven by the OPEC agreement to cut production during the first six months of 2019. There are also sanctions on Venezuelan export and refinery capacity in the Midwest is down due to weather and maintenance issues.
