SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WMTV)-- The girls in Sun Prairie's Girls on the Run Eastside group helped out a K9 by using color Wednesday afternoon.
Participants throw color during Girls on the Run event in Sun Prairie on Wed. May 29, 2019.
Girls on the Run teaches life skills through running and other methods. Those in the Eastside Elementary club were asked to choose a group in the community to help through a special project. They decided they wanted to raise money for Sun Prairie Police Department K9 Lasko, and that a color fun run would be a great way to do that.
Wednesday afternoon, the 3rd through 5th graders gathered at Eastside for their "Just Add Color Fun Run". The team of 14 girls were joined by 60 plus community members and supporters. They tossed powdered color in the air, which then floated down on them as they started the run.
Their "Just Add Color" event raised just shy of $900 to the Sun Prairie Police Department's K9 fund, which has an annual budget of $2,500.
Lasko's handler, Officer Ben Pluim said, "It's very special whenever someone considers K9 Lasko and me for an event like this...and to give us a donation. We use that money for training equipment and to go to training."
Kids also had the chance to see and pet Lasko at the event, adding even more fun to the color fun run.
