Five people were sent to the hospital Thursday morning after an allegedly intoxicated teenage driver of a stolen SUV lost control of his vehicle and crashed into two other cars and a minivan, the Dane Co. Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies arrested 17-year-old Jakel D. Jones on a single count of Operating While Intoxicated and causing an injury. The incident remains under investigation and more charges may be coming, the Sheriff’s Office added.

The crash, which happened around 9:10 a.m., completely closed a stretch of U.S. Highway 51 near McFarland for nearly an hour and a half.

Investigators say Jones was behind the wheel of a 2011 Ford Edge that was stolen out of Stoughton. The Fitchburg teen was reportedly heading south on U.S. 51 when he crossed into oncoming traffic. His SUV first hit a Chevrolet Astro minivan head-on before spinning into a Volkswagen Jetta and Chrysler Sebring.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, at least five people were hurt and taken to area hospitals. Some of the injuries were described as serious.
