BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV) -- Six people were detained and one person was arrested following a state Justice Department investigation in Beloit, says police.
A Beloit Police Department Facebook post Wednesday morning urged people to avoid the area of Portland Avenue and Vine Street due to heavy police presence in the area.
Police say they were assisting the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation in serving a search warrant in the 900 block of Vice Street. They said the main target of the investigation, which had been going on for at least a year, was taken into custody.
They did not release the name of that individual, nor did they identify any of the others who were detained.
Capt. Andre Sayles said the search warrant did not pertain to any homicides or harsh criminal investigations, and referred to the DOJ for further details.
"It's no crimes that would alarm the community," said Sayles. "It’s crimes they’ve committed over the past year."
The Janesville Police Department, Rock County Sheriff’s Office, and Probation and Parole assisted with the investigation.
NBC15 has reached out to the DOJ for the nature of the investigation and have yet to receive a response.
