MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Dane County is seeking to create a trust fund for Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison.
The county said in a press release Saturday that the move would make it easier to keep track of the money raised for the zoo.
This comes before the contract between county and the Henry Vilas Zoological Society – a nonprofit that helps run the zoo – is set to expire on March 31.
The funds the Society used to manage will now be transferred into the new fund. Those funds will only be used to support zoo operations and any outstanding financial obligations of the Society.
The zoo will also announce late March the hiring of a consultant to assist in the transition period.
“With transition of who coordinates fundraising operations underway at Dane County’s Henry Vilas Zoo, Dane County is seeking creation of a trust fund so there's a clear understanding of how dollars raised to this point for the zoo are allocated moving forward,” said Dane County Executive Joe Parisi, according to the release.
