Highway 19 shut down for several hours following crash

TOWN OF SPRINGFIELD, Wis. (WMTV) -- A Friday morning crash in the Town of Springfield closed all lanes of State Highway 19 for several hours.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. Friday between Lodi-Springfield Road and Kingsley Road. The Dane County Sheriff's Office says a car was traveling eastbound on Highway 19 when it crossed the centerline and collided with a semi, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

Officials say the driver of the car,a 48-year-old man from Waunakee, was initially pinned in the car. He was taken to the hospital by UW Med Flight. He is in critical condition.

Authorities say the semi started on fire after the crash, but the driver was able to exit the truck. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officials say all lanes of Highway 19 reopened around 10:00 a.m.
