MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office released the name of the victim from the homicide on the east side of Madison early Friday morning.
Amanda J. Woods, a 30-year-old of Madison native, died from "homicidal sharp force-related trauma" near the Darbo Drive neighborhood at about 4:16 a.m., according to the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office.
A forensic autopsy was completed at the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday. Additional testing is underway at this time.
The death remains under investigation by the City of Madison Police Department and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police have yet to name any persons of interest or suspects.
“At this point, we don’t know whether or not she knew the person who killed her so right now there is some danger to the community. I don’t think we can discount that," said Madison Police spokesman, Joel DeSpain. "It’s a horrible thing for this victim and her family but I think Madison overall is a pretty safe place. We do see crime taking place like any other community. But to go through almost 9 months of the year without a homicide I think speaks well for Madison and the level of violence.”
