Instead of gifts, 11-year-old girl donates to help feed the homeless
An 11-year-old Madison girl wanted one thing for Christmas in 2017, help out those in need.
Felicia Coleman did not want gifts for Christmas and wanted to raise money to help feed the homeless.
"I wasn't totally surprised that she would ask for that," said Valerie Williams, Coleman's mother. "I was surprised enough that a child her age would ask to help others instead of herself. It was a pretty big surprise and it made me cry."
Coleman collected more than $750. On Saturday afternoon, Coleman, her family, and a few community leaders headed to Chicago. Coleman's family is from the city. They fed more than 100 people.
"They looked happy because they got food and stuff." said Coleman.
Williams said their family was once in need and it is extra special to be in the position to give back to others.
