MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- After former Wisconsin Badger football player J.J. Watt gave an inspirational commencement speech at the UW-Madison graduation on Saturday, he made a surprise appearance.

The NFL star visited the American Family Children's Hospital in the afternoon. Watt took a picture with a friend upon his arrival, as the intimidating lineman shared a wholesome moment with baby Grayson Maynard.

Nurses on the fourth floor of the hospital expressed that Watt came on his own accord and his visit was not scheduled, according to the mother of the child pictured, Jessica Lee.

Lee said Watt's visit was very kind and uplifting for the kids at the hospital.
